See Where You’re Getting Fat and We’ll Tell You How to Fix It
Being overweight is a lot more complicated than many like to make it out to be. Obesity in general has many issues that you can’t see on the surface. Yet general surface solutions are prescribed to people time again and for many, these methods simply do not work.

It looks like now we are finally figuring out why some people react well to one method, while others fail.

A study grouped 4,000 obese adults together, and then separated them into different categories. Here’s how the Yorkshire Health Study labeled the different groups:

Young healthy females – women who were obese, but generally had fewer obesity-related complications, such as type 2 diabetes

Heavy-drinking males – as above, but with higher alcohol intake

Unhappy and anxious middle-aged – predominantly women with poor mental health and wellbeing

Affluent and healthy elderly – generally positive health, but defining characteristics of higher alcohol intake and high blood pressure

Physically sick but happy elderly – older people with more chronic diseases, such as osteoarthritis, but good mental health

Poorest health – people who were the most economically deprived and had the greatest number of chronic diseases.

It’s a very important study as it gets to the underlying cause of why a person is obese, and how they can slim down according to what is going to work specifically for them. Though further research needs to be done to really zero-in on the causes and cures.

These pictures don’t relate directly to the study, but they do give you a great idea of the different types of bodies that hold weight in different places. Recognizing such is very important for learning how to lose your weight.

There are two types of body fat distribution: Android and Gynoid

According to Positive Med:
“An ‘android’ fat distribution pattern is so called because more men than women exhibit it. You may have heard it described as an ‘apple’ body type when the waist circumference is greater than that of the hips.”
and…
“A ‘gynoid’ distribution is most commonly seen in women. This is what many call the ‘pear’ body shape. In this pattern, hip circumference is greater than waist circumference.”

Let us break down the numbers for you!

1. Upper Body Obesity (Android)
With this type, you are generally not exercising enough, while consuming too much food. If you were to cut back on things like sweets and snacks, then exercising for at least 30 minutes a day, this could make a positive difference in your weight loss efforts.

2. Stomach-Centered Obesity (Android)
The key words here are stress, anxiety and depression. This may be what is causing the obesity. For this you might want to try both traditional fat burning cardio exercise, and then integrate in relaxation techniques, such as any forms of meditation. This could lead to fat loss.

3. Lower Body Obesity (Gynoid)
Many women have this problem and the target here should be lower-body resistance exercises, along with cardio training. It’s a tough area to target and you may have to dial in your diet as well.

4. Swollen Stomach Obesity (Android)
This can be a classic case of too much booze, as evidenced with the typical “beer belly” that heavy drinkers will develop over time. Cut down on your booze intake, focus on breathing exercises to work the entire torso area, and of course dial your diet in and get some cardio workouts going.

5. Lower Body Obesity that Includes Lower Legs (Gynoid)
This is common with pregnant women as a common sign is the legs swelling. Water aerobics can help as it is low impact and put pressure on joints.

6. Large, Protruding Stomach with Upper Back Fat (Android)
This is another inactivity causing effect, like the first kind mentioned above. Keeping blood sugar levels stable is key as is exercise and of course diet, where you should limit the amount you eat in one sitting, and instead eat in small increments.

While these help in giving you an idea of what your type is and what to do about it, hormonal and genetic issues are also a factor. Always consult a medical professional to find out what the best course of action is to lose weight while remaining healthy .
